Updating Software and Maps on the 2020+ 7" Touchscreen Display Powered by RIDE COMMAND

To update the software and maps on your 2020+ Challenger, Pursuit, Chieftain or Roadmaster models equipped with a display powered by RIDE COMMAND, follow the steps below. 

Over the Air (OTA) Software Updates
OTA software updates will be deployed to in-vehicle touchscreens that are equipped with an active RIDE COMMAND+ subscription. For more about RIDE COMMAND+, read the RIDE COMMAND+ Overview article.

When an update is ready, a notification will be displayed on the top of the touchscreen. Follow these steps when you get an update notification: 

1. Connect the bike to a trickle charger. Refer to your Owner's Manual for the trickle charger location.

2. Tap the notification on the display to access the Update Software menu. 

3. Tap INSTALL in the Update Software menu.

4. The update will install, and the touchscreen will reboot. 

Updating RIDE COMMAND Software

Required Materials: 

  • 32GB or larger USB flash drive in exFAT® format
  • Computer with internet access
  • Trickle charger

To update the software on your display, follow these steps. 

On your computer: 

1. Turn on your computer.

2. Open a web browser and visit the Indian Motorcycle RIDE COMMAND website

3. Select the 2020+ TOURING AND BAGGER update. 

4. Select the UPDATE SOFTWARE option.

5. Scroll down the page until you see the "DATE" UPDATE button. Download the update file. Note: This may take a few minutes to complete.

7. Plug in a USB flash drive into your computer. 

8. Ensure the USB is exFAT® formatted. Note: Before formatting the drive, copy and save any files on the drive to another location, as they will be deleted when you format the drive. 9. Once the USB drive is correctly formatted, drag the update file to the USB flash drive. 

10. After the transfer is complete, safely eject the USB drive from your computer. 

On your motorcycle: 

11. Connect the bike to a trickle charger. Refer to your Owner's Manual for the trickle charger location. 

12. Disable the Automatic Display Power Down. Navigate to SETTINGS > VEHICLE > AUTOMATIC DISPLAY POWER DOWN and turn OFF. Note: If the display powers down while attempting to update maps or software, you have have to restart the update process on the bike. This setting will revert to default when you turn the motorcycle off. 

13. Connect the USB drive to the USB port on your bike. 

  • On a Chieftain, Pursuit and Roadmaster, the USB port is located in the storage compartment above the dash. 
  • On a Challenger, the USB port is located in the right-side storage compartment

14. Power on the touchscreen display. 

15. From the home screen, tap the INDIAN MOTORCYCLE logo at the top of the page. 

16. Select ALL SETTINGS to access the Settings Menu. 

17. Once in the Settings Menu, select GENERAL (settings). 

18. Scroll down until you see UPDATE SOFTWARE. Select this option. 

19. On the next screen, you will see the update file found on the USB flash drive that is connected to your bike. Click INSTALL. Confirm the update by clicking INSTALL when prompted a second time.  

20. The update will begin installing. Once the install is complete, the display will reboot and the update has been completed. 

Updating RIDE COMMAND Maps

Required Materials: 

  • 32GB USB flash drive in exFAT® format
  • Computer with internet access
  • Trickle charger

To update the maps on your display, follow these steps. 

On your computer: 
1. Go to the Indian Motorcycle RIDE COMMAND website and log in or create an account. If creating an account, navigate to the GARAGE tab and enter the VIN for your motorcycle.

2. Click on the MAP & SOFTWARE UPDATES link on the left side of the screen.

3. Click on the 2020+ TOURING AND BAGGER display link.

4. Click UPDATE MAP. 

5. Select the map region you wish to download and add to your bike. 

6. Enter your email address if it is not already filled out. 

7. Click GENERATE MAP PACKAGE. 

8. If your bike has maps within two years of purchase and no scratch code is required, skip to step 12. If not, enter your scratch code for redemption.

9. Click UPGRADE MAP.

10. Confirm.

11. You will receive an email with a link to download the map update package. Note: This may take up to 30 minutes to receive. 

12. Open your email and click on the DOWNLOAD MAP link to begin the download process. Note: A wired internet connection is preferred if available. The map package is approximately 25GB and may take several hours to download. 

13. Plug a USB flash drive into your computer. 

14. Ensure the USB is exFAT® formatted. Note: Before formatting the drive, copy and save any files on the drive to another location, as they will be deleted when you format the drive. 15. Once the USB drive is correctly formatted, drag the map update file to the USB flash drive. 

16. After the transfer is complete, safely eject the USB drive from your computer. 

On your bike: 

17. Connect your bike to a trickle charger before starting the map update. Depending on the model year of your bike, the trickle charger connection port can be found behind the dash or behind the left side cover. Note: This update can take up to 45 minutes to complete. 

18. Connect the USB drive (with new map downloaded) into your bike.

  • On a Chieftain, Pursuit and Roadmaster, the USB port is located in the storage compartment above the dash. 
  • On a Challenger, the USB port is located in the right-side storage compartment

19. Disable the Automatic Display Power Down. Navigate to SETTINGS > VEHICLE > AUTOMATIC DISPLAY POWER DOWN and turn OFF. Note: If the display powers down while attempting to update maps or software, you have have to restart the update process on the bike. This setting will revert to default when you turn the motorcycle off. 

20. Navigate to the GENERAL tab in the Settings Menu. 

21. Scroll down until you see UPDATE MAPS. Select UPDATE MAPS. 

22. Select INSTALL next to the update file name. 

23. The update will begin installing. Once complete, the display will reboot. Note: Make sure the USB is not ejected before the map update has completed and the display has rebooted on its own.

The RIDE COMMAND app is available on the App Store® for iPhone® and iPad®, as well as on Google Play®.
